Ground collapses and rock bursts represent a seriousissue for underground mining. HYDRA-U provides thehigh-accuracy (<0.1 mm) and resolution typical ofradar technology to support geotechnical engineers.The aim is to guarantee a safe access to working places ofthe complete mine structure, protect the major serviceopenings throughout their designed duty life, and assess theperformance of ground supports. HYDRA-U is a remote sensing monitoring system able toprovide real-time monitoring of surface deformations overlarge areas and trigger early-warning alerts in case ofimpending collapses to evacuate people and machineryat-risk. With a scan range of 200m, even non-accessibleareas of underground openings can be safely monitored forelements at risk
